End of the Year
Anyway, I'm gearing up for the end of this year and the beginning of the next one. School starts next month, work is going ok, I'm 14 months sober, and have a lot to be thankful for, so 2006 was really a good year!

Be Thankful
This morning I caught a segment on GMA celebrating past Americans: Abraham Lincoln, who abolished slavery and held the Union together, was voted number one. The highest ranking female on the list was Elizabeth Cady Stanton, one of the leaders of Women's Suffrage which led to the 19th Amendment - giving women the right to vote.

Trackback Test
Hopefully this will make some sense now, this trackback business. So I'm testing on a rant from Andrew Sullivan's blog via a guest blogger while the Sullster is on vacation.
Scream Found
I'm glad that Edvard Munch's The Scream and Madonna were recovered after being stolen two years ago while on exhibit in Oslo, Norway.

Sad Day for Kitties Everywhere
I was saddened to read that Fred, Brooklyn's undercover kitten, died today.

Future Business Leaders of America....
Interesting read on young CEOs and how women play into leadership. I'll pay more attention to it when things calm down with work and my rehearsals with the GMC .

Mr. T, Media Whore
While reading the news that Mr. T is giving up his bling due to the Katrina devistation he witnessed last year. Um, hello? I saw an Entertainment Tonight like 3 years ago annoucing he had quit his golden ways, due to his newfound spiritual path. Maybe I missed his subsequent relapse or something.

Digging up Terri Schavo
Interesting story ; however, it wouldn't have helped Terri. These regeneration took place on brain cells that were still alive but their connections were severed. Terri was determined to be completely brain dead.

Big Brother
What a depressing environment where people are not free to learn unrestricted and tightly controlled ideology is forced upon them. Hmmmm... is that China or is that the USA? Seems like that's where we're heading.

TIME.com: The Devil Wears Thin -- Page 1
You can't even blame the filmmakers for mounting a seemingly ludicrous defense of Runway and its ilk. They have Miranda say that what her rag proposes as ultra chic one year eventually trickles down to Wal-Mart, where , in knock-off form, it makes everyone a little happier. This struck me as a pretty desperate rationalization.
Although he makes some good points, I don't agree with Richard Schickel's review on "The Devil Wears Prada."
An "exclusive interview" with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Patricia Field, the costume designer for Sex and the City.
Quickie Redesign
I'm happy with the new look. My old design was a template that didn't incorporate comments or trackbacks, and I didn't want to spend the time figuring out how to do that, so instead I chose a newer template until I find the time to design the site myself. But that may not be for awhile; I don't have the time right now, and I am happy with this new look.

Ford Shifts Its Focus Away From Hybrid Vehicles - New York Times
This is so frustrating... now the American automakers are creating a dependency on grain alcohol instead of puruing and investing in electric cars. Maybe ethanol is a waste product. I am so ignorant on this subject, but it's something to look into.
Another article on the subject.
Mama Lesbian and Daddy Fag
This just burns me up!
The board instituted the ban in 1999, saying children should be in traditional two-parent homes because they would be more likely to thrive.
Most fucked up single parent homes originate from the two-parent model, so the article's point is ridiculous. Do they have statistics or case studies to back up their claims? The Right always cries "this only makes the children suffer" yet clearly it's the children who are suffering when good homes are available yet they are set adrift in the foster care system.
I am so thankful that my last permanent placement in foster care was a stable environment, where I didn't have to worry about cockroaches burrowing in my ears.
Yay! More state-sanctioned hate.
That's Still Around?
While looking up bus schedule information on sdcommute.com, imagine my surprise to notice the "Threat Advisory" notice in the left navigation panel. Does America still do this? It was a huge thing back in 2002, but I haven't heard much of this since. I remember a Whoopi episode where the main comedic topic was the ever-changing threat level. There was a time period where there were daily annoucements as paraphrased here: "I don't know who, I don't know where, I don't know when, but soon, somewhere, somehow, something is gonna happen."
A Tangled Web
Not quite sure what to think about Keira Knightly's Jaw , though there are some witty incidents: Heather Mills' leg running off after finding out about Heather's alleged porn past. Wasn't aware Keira's jaw was so prodigious. Regardless, Al-Zarqawi's Mom's Blog and The God Blog are hillarious. Particularly divine are the random missives from Jesus.

ABC News: Andy Roddick Serves up Tirade Against 'Man Bags'
Please, Andy Roddick lost all anti-metrosexual musings when he began dating bubblegum princess Mandy Moore.
The Blog | Robert Schlesinger: Gay Superman Burns a Flag | The Huffington Post
Great essay and subsequent discussion on how the GOP uses bait and switch tactics with the public, using non-issues to distract from the more important ones.
A couple examples come to mind, both national and local in scope. There are so many other pressing, more important issues than these trivial items. Money is being wasted and could be better spend on fighting homelessness, AIDS, terrorism, etc.
Here's a KPBS article on the Mt. Soledad cross issue.

Some Scary Shit
I remember stressing over asteroid impacts in second grade back in 1986. What caused this concern was the return of Halley's Comet. News like this doesn't alleviate my long-time fear.
That'll Be The Day...
Damn, I was hoping Thomas Jane was one of us. Patricia, you are so lucky. Glad to see she's upgraded her tastes since her last marriage.

Not quite...
I read a similar article to this one about the higher probability of being gay the more older biological brothers one has, however, I am the first born, so not sure this exactly explains my "condition."

Travis Bone: Making a Difference in San Diego - Outsports.com
Every time I see articles by Travis Bone in the GLT I become rageful and jealous. Why? He's actively involved in our community, he obviously does a damn good job reporting news, as this article demonstrates. Maybe cause he's cute and skinny, and he's doing the things that I've only talked about doing while perched at a bar while active in my addictions.
Congrats on the recognition, Travis!

Just checking in. I got the Lambda site last week and have a temporary homepage up until I make time this weekend to add features to the site in time for the committee meeting on Sunday.
Still sober, yay! Gained weight, nay! 23lbs. Also having a biopsy done on some dysplaisic cells found in my rectum, however, the weight is bothering more than the possibility of having cancer.

Ugh, I committed to writing every day and I haven't stuck to that. Just have to recommit and try again.
Really quick, things are good. I'll talk more later. I just wanted to post this Jennifer Garner interview about the Alias series finale.

Despite feeling very sore, I've had a very good day. I finally showed up for my first of six work service days stemming from my 2003 DUI. A group of us petty criminals were driven to Ramon to hoe... heheh. And man, I do not work this hard at my job! I learned way more than I ever wanted to know about hoeing. But it feels good that, a) I showed up and stuck to "the plan," b) put in a hard day's work, recognizing when my body had too much hoeing and moving on to other tasks so I remained useful to the group, c) the camaderie afterward.
Once we were dropped off, Larry picked me up so I could make it on-time to my tennis match, which I ultimately won. However, my competition is a very sore loser, and trying to enjoy the overall experience was very testing. But I managed.
The 2-bit was great; heard Ru-Ru and Pam. Then fellowship at Davids. Now bed. I will pray that God helps me to get up and make it on time tomorrow for day 2.

I have been meaning to post for some time, but I've been either busy or lazy. I promised myself I'd write for 10min today, but I got sidetracked playing around with Plaxo, so I'm going to keep this entry brief.
Today was a good day. 2nd day solo at work, worked on the 10.5 site and optimized it for maintenance. Mailed off the car payment and my ammends to the chiropractor, had lunch with co-workers... well attempted to and spent the hour with them waiting for my food, ultimately eating at my desk. Made it to my step study, began the 4th step and felt spiritually connected. Walked Ebby and got a nice card, God-box and day planner from Carl for my 6 months.
I'm commiting to writing at least 10 minutes a day, so hopefully there will be more posts to come.

I'm still alive and kicking. I started a new job 2 weeks ago, so been busy with that and recovery-related things. Hopefully I can detail some more things tomorrow when an opportunity avails itself.
